Blake has bright golden-yellow eyes and wavy, dark hair. She's a Faunus -- a human with animal traits -- and that manifests as a pair of pointed feline ears in the same dark shade as her hair. She's relatively lean, and built for speed. Her default expression can come off as moody or distant, and she only smiles easily for members of her team. Her Huntress uniform is a pair of black leggings largely covered by black thigh-high boots, with a black crop top, and a long white jacket over top. Her weapon, a combination gun-katana, is attached to her back by way of a small backpack.

Blake is typically rather introverted, preferring the company of a few close friends or just a good book, and in most social situations, she'll be on the quieter side, more reserved than most. She's relatively mellow, but wields a wicked sense of dry humor. One surefire way to get her fired up is bringing up the topic of Faunus rights, a topic that she's incredibly passionate about, and will debate anybody at length about it. She has suffered from a lot of self-esteem issues to do with her past involvement in the extremist group the White Fang, and her relationship with Adam, but events of the past few years have helped her come to terms with some of it, at least a little. Though typically a person who likes to think before she acts, Blake can be recklessly impulsive when someone she loves is in danger, or when she's angry.

When it comes to her team, Blake would do anything for them. She's come to think of Ruby as a younger sister, but one that she nonetheless looks up to in admiration. She had something of a tumultuous early history with Weiss, but it's solidified into an incredibly strong bond, and she's so proud of the progress Weiss has made in separating from her family. And as for Yang, she's both Blake's team partner and best friend, and so much more -- in Blake's opinion, Yang has made her better in every way, her perfect counterpart.

Blake was born on Menagerie, a small tropical island solely inhabited by other Faunus like herself. Her parents, Ghira and Kali, were the founders of a Faunus rights movement called the White Fang, and Blake was practically born into the movement, holding a picket sign as soon as she could walk.

Over time, the White Fang began to get more extreme in its ideas of how to attain equality, largely led by people like Sienna Khan and Adam Taurus. Blake had become close to Adam as a preteen, admiring his passion for the cause, and naively ignoring his violence. Her father stepped down from his leadership role, sensing that the group had split from his own ideas. Blake was 12 years old, and had a vicious argument with her parents, believing them to be cowards. They left, and she remained. Sienna Khan took over, heralding an age of violence for the White Fang. They raided mines to free exploited Faunus, and stole shipments of Dust.

Blake and Adam grew closer, from friends to a mentorship, and finally to a relationship. But Blake had been growing dissatisfied with the violence, increasingly becoming aware of how petty and abusive Adam was. Finally, she couldn't condone the White Fang's actions anymore, and she hatched a plan to run away.

At 17, she ran. She applied to go to Beacon Academy, a school to train Huntresses and Huntsmen to protect people from the monsters of Grimm. Believing it was the best way to bring about Faunus equality, Blake became a student there, and was assigned to Team RWBY.

SEMBLANCE: SHADOW

allows her to create short-term shadow-clones of herself. These clones can push her in the direction of her choosing for a boost of motion, they can hide her location, and can be used to trick and disorient opponents. With the use of Dust (magic reagent), she can infuse elemental properties into these clones; creating a fiery clone that explodes on impact, or an icy clone that freezes someone in place.

COMBAT TRAINING

as a trained Huntress, Blake is somewhat stronger and faster than the average person, though she relies far more heavily on her speed, agility and flexibility.
